2008 March
Notes
Our Club has been a 100% supporter of the DG's Projects for years and this year is no exception. To be a 100% Club, a $20.00 per member is required. The $20.00 breakes down as: $2.00 Beacon Lodge, $2.25 Leader Dog, $4.75 PA Lions Hearing Research Foundation, $3.75 PA Lions Sight Conservation & Eye Research & Diabetes Research, $2.00 PA State Foundation, $1.50 Western PA Lions Hearing Foundation, $.50 Lions of PA for Leader Dogs, and $3.25 LCIF.
The Board has approved $5000 over 5 years in support of Campaign Sight First II. We will receive 5 Melvin Jones Fellows over the next 5 years. It is estimated that $6 is all it takes to save someone from a preventable blindness. Our pledge will save more than 800 people from a life of blindness.
The Board approved a $300 donation to Lifesteps in support of their Child Check Program to purchase Autism Screening materials.
A "Change for Cody" Initiative was put in motion by Lion Bill Hetrick. This is a fundraiser for Cody Fend, a blind two year old boy (Cody and his family are scheduled to be at our March 4 meeting). Cody suffers from optic nerve hypoplasia ands will be traveling to China for this treatment. It is estimated that it will cost the Fend family $50,000. Contact Lion Bill for materials to put out a change bucket anywhere in the Butler Area. All money going to this initiative family.
A new supply of caps are in. They are very nice looking (they weere by Baynes).. The cost is $15.00 each. Contact Lion Wink if you need a cap.
Lion Don McCandless has a suggestion for a one day bus trip on May 3 to Krugger Toy and Train Museum, Wheeling Dog Races, and Cabelas Hunting, Fishing and Outdoor Clothing store. The bus would liave Butler at 7:30 AM and return about 7:30 PM. 35 people at $35.00 per person would cover bus expense. If we fill the bus we could make $400 to $500 for the club. Please see Lion Don McCandless for more details.
